Is it bad to have duplicate title tags on my site?
On-Page SEO
Yes, duplicate title tags confuse both search engines and users. In traditional SEO, duplicates caused indexing issues. In 2025, with AI search and SGE, they also risk diluting your authority in “answer summaries.”
Why it matters:
Search engines use titles as the first indicator of relevance. If multiple pages share the same title, it’s unclear which page is the best match, reducing CTR and possibly suppressing your page in AI Overviews.
Fixes:
(1) Audit your site using tools like GSC → Search Appearance → HTML improvements, or Screaming Frog.
(2) Rewrite duplicates to reflect unique page value. Example: Instead of “SEO Services – Company,” differentiate with “SEO Services for SaaS Companies – Company.”
(3) For paginated series, use rel=“prev/next” (if still relevant) or clear numbering in titles. How-to: Keep titles <60 characters, descriptive, and include brand name only when helpful.
